Cherry Tree: Two Haiku

The ancient trunk smooth
as copper ribbon, rough as
twine of green and gold.

High in branches thick
with viridescent leaves, a
hidden sparrow sings.

As I’ve been reading and editing my talks from the women’s retreat at my church these past few weeks, I’ve been feeling nudged to take gratitude more seriously on my blog. So, starting today, every Thursday will be about thanks giving.

Today, I’m grateful for:

2587. The cherry tree and its beautiful bark
2588. The sparrow singing invisibly in its canopy
2589. Eyes to see
2590. Ears to hear
2591. Words to capture a moment in time

What are you thankful for?

Please take a moment to name (in the comment box, perhaps?) three or four—or ten!—things for which you’re grateful. Let’s lift up a hymn of grateful praise to the Giver of all good gifts!

It wouldn’t be Seattle if it didn’t rain on the second day of summer, now, would it? :) Trying to remember that it’s good for my strawberries and pear trees!
