Twelve

Twelve years, and your hair
grays at the temples,
shrinks from your forehead

yet your eyes smile blue—
summer shot with gold—

and my heart still beats
a song when your face
sky lifts in laughter.

Today I’m grateful for:

2591. My husband
2592. Twelve years on Sunday
2593. Saying yes: one of the best decisions of my life
2594. The ways his love has enabled me to thrive
2595. His contagious laughter
2596. His hands
2597. The privilege of parenting with him
2598. Four healthy, happy children
2599. His belief in me, my writing
2600. Getting to share my life with the man I love

awww, happy anniversary! i love reading that your husband believes in you and your writing, what a blessing.

and let’s see…i’m grateful for unexpected handwritten letters sent by mail, for my five children who fill my life with laughter and sticky kisses, kids that love to read, a true partner (creative, parenting, spiritual) in my husband, and an ac that is working overtime in this heatwave ;-)

You are so blessed, Kimberlee! What a beautiful family!
Today, I’m thinking of the simple pleasures of summer, and saying thanks for these: walking barefoot on grass; the sprinkler on a hot day; freshly picked strawberries; root beer floats; roasting marshmallows in the back yard.

You made me cry in my conference session. The guy next to me was wondering what was going on.

    I love you,

    Doug

Thanks for adding your own blessings to the post, Amanda. I love that you got more than one (!!!) handwritten letter recently. That is a gift. As is a/c in a heatwave. Thanks be to God for whoever invented it, yes?

Bwahahaha! My evil plan worked. I got you to comment…and cry. Be sure to tell that guy that no one died; it’s just your anniversary :)  143, too (2?).
